About the director of Gong Kyai Pramugari: Craig Rowe MFA, M.Ed (w/ CTC Lev. II: CLEAR), MI

Indonesia: Craig Rowe has recently performed at the new Walt Disney Concert Hall/REDCAT (2008, 2005), the Eli and Edythe Broad Stage at Santa Monica College (2008),contributed to soundtracks (Wild Bill w/ Jeff Bridges, 1995) and composed sections for video games (Joint Operations, Joint Operations Expansion Pack) and started his own group: Gong Kyai Pramugari (see myspace profile). He has performed at UCLA's World Music Festival (2006), UCLA's Glorya Kaufman Theatre ("Cup of Java" 2009), USC's "Yogya: An Earthquake Benefit" (2006), SDSU, "Cal Arts" (1994-present), Armand Hammer Museum, Southwest Museum, Asia Pacific Museum, Festival of Masks (Craft and Folk Museum-LA County), Fowler Museum of Cultural History, LA's Indonesian Consulate and more!

Languages: Mr. Rowe is fluent in Bahasa Indonesia and trying to remember Bahasa Jawa. He logged somewhat extensive tours of East and Central Java between 1993-1996. ....


Craig also speaks conversational Mandarin and Malay. He is now learning Spanish.

Educational Diversity: Mr. Rowe holds a BA in Anthropology/Ethnomusicology (minor Asian Studies) from Pitzer College (Claremont) and an MFA in Indonesian Music and Dance from the California Institute of the Arts (Valencia, Ca.). He holds a California Teaching Credential (LeveI & II CLEAR); is a recognized expert in the field of Autism and Behavior; implimented the first ASRD (Autistic Spectrum & Related Disorders) Middle School program in PUSD; received his (2009) M.Ed: Special Education, focusing on "Autism and Cross Cultural Education" from Azusa Pacific University. ....


Honors: Cal Arts: Mademoiselle Zuniga Baldwin Scholarship. Pitzer: New Resources Scholarship. ALM: Guitar Contest (1992), founded Teacher Advisory Board (1992) and received the Teacher Service Award(1994). Azusa Pacific University: Pi Lambda Theta Honor Society.


Guitar: As a "Western" guitarist Craig is also graduate of the prestigous Musicians Institute. He has studied with Larry Carlton, Keith Wyatt, Steve Trovato, David Oakes, Norman Brown, Jamie Findlay, Adam Levine (Dick Grove School of Music), DJ Alverson, JW. Harrelson and a host of others. He has experience and fluency in a variety of guitar settings: Jazz. Rock, Blues, Big Band, Flamenco, Fusion and more.....


Hawaii: Craig can also be seen performing "Hawaiian/Island" music with various groups on the ukelele, bass and guitar. In early 2008 Craig founded the Mystical Retards Ukulele group.
